Atsuko Okatsuka’s Fame Started with an Earthquake

The comedian is currently bringing her signature surrealism to stages worldwide on The Big Bowl Tour following the 2025 release of her Hulu special, Father.

Atsuko Okatsuka is a comedic force whose bowl cut and surreal timing have carved a singular path through Hollywood’s film, television, and stand-up landscapes.

Currently, the 37-year-old is headlining The Big Bowl Tour, a global circuit that builds on the momentum of her “Full Grown” tour, which sold out over 200 dates across 20 countries.

This live surge accompanies her second stand-up special, Father, released in 2025 as a flagship title for Hulu’s “Hularious” comedy initiative.  The new hour arrives as a follow-up to her 2022 HBO debut, The Intruder, which earned her a 2023 Gracie Award and was crowned the Best Debut Special of the Year by The New York Times.  These followed Okatsuka’s 2018 self-released special, They Call Me Stacey, which showcased her early experimental style.

Her mainstream breakthrough came in 2021 after performing on The Late Late Show with James Corden, where her eccentric stage persona immediately caught fire online.  She previously gained internet fame for a 2019 clip where she unflappably continued a stand-up set as a 7.1 magnitude earthquake struck the room.

Okatsuka’s cinematic presence is expanding just as rapidly.  In 2025, she joined the Pixar universe voicing Ambassador Naos in Elio and starred in the drama All That We Love.  Released in April, she appeared in the comedy film Outcome alongside Keanu Reeves.

Born in Taiwan and raised in Japan, Okatsuka moved to the U.S. at age ten.  She graduated from the Cal Arts in 2010, after dropping out of UC-Riverside to pursue her creative passions.

Today, she stands as a global headliner, blending vulnerable storytelling with a distinct, high-energy stage persona.
