Tyga’s Hip-Hop Hits Reign Over a Decade

Tyga’s prolific artistry has leveraged chart-topping albums and billion-stream singles to stay relevant in the ever-changing rap scene.

Vietnamese American rapper Tyga achieved major commercial success in 2011 with his DJ Mustard-produced breakout single “Rack City.”  The minimalist club hit became ubiquitous in clubs and has since been streamed over 500 million times – 5x certified Platinum.

The track was the catalyst for Tyga’s rise in the mainstream, building on his previous work with Lil Wayne’s Young Money Entertainment.  

It was under that label that Tyga released the 2012 album Careless World: Rise of the Last King which included “Rack City” and the 3x Platinum hit “Faded” featuring Lil Wayne.  The album reached number 1 on the US Rap charts and number 4 on the Billboard 200.

Tyga followed with 2013’s Hotel California, which featured the popular track “For the Road” with Chris Brown.

On Chris Brown’s 2014 album X Tyga was featured on the song “Loyal.”

The two continued their partnership on the 2015 collab album Fan of a Fan with “Ayo” as the lead single.  The track has been streamed over 350 million times on Spotify.

The same year Tyga released the single “Stimulated” with the music video featuring Kylie Jenner which confirmed their controversial relationship.

Tyga’s biggest hit came in 2018 on the track “Taste” which has been streamed 1.5 billion times on Spotify and has 1.7 billion plays on YouTube.  The summer track became an instant staple on the Platinum-certified album Legendary.

In February of 2025 he released his newest album NSFW featuring the hit single “Pop It Off.”

Tyga’s extensive catalog of hits and consistent ability to maintain relevance for over a decade are reflected in his nearly 23 million Spotify monthly listeners.

The 36-year-old was raised between Compton and Gardena.  His mother was born in Vietnam.
